Louis De Zoysa was convicted of hte murder of 54-year-old Matiu Ratana.
Matiu Ratana had been a police sergeant and had arrested Louis De Zoysa shortly before in London Road, Norbury after finding bullets in his pocket. however, they failed to find an antique Colt .41, 1895 double action revolver that he had concealed under his coat by his back.
When he was being prepared to be searched in the cistody centre he suddenly reached for his gun, which handcuffed and shot Matiu Ratana, who was standing in front of him twice, killing him.
Louis De Zoysa had bought the gun legally and made his own bullets.
